StateData: The National Report on Employment Services and Outcomes (2009)
Policy shifts over the past 20 years have created an agenda for sustained commitment to integrated employment for individuals with disabilities. But despite these clear intentions, unemployment of individuals with disabilities continues to be a significant and pressing public policy concern. Recent analysis using the Current Population Survey (CPS) for September 2009 estimates that 28 percent of working-age adults with disabilities are employed, compared with 70 percent of people without disabilities, and CPS data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that the number of workers with disabilities has dropped at three times the rate of workers without disabilities since October 2008. For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) the disparity in labor market participation increases. (2/2010)
